Blog opened

It appears that one should ideally provide direct downloads when one scanlates.
I will meet this requirement with the utmost minimum of effort.

Enjoy the vast wasteland of this section of the internet.
The only things that shall be updated are links to whatever I happen to scanlate.

  3. I appreciate the work and all, but a few things irk me:

Why leave some Japanese words untranslated only to have footnotes? It's fairly redundant.

Is it really necessary to leave the word "hentai" in Japanese? It holds no special meaning, and to be honest, it sounds very retarded when you give it an "s"(hentais) for the plural form rather than just using the English word (perverts).

Same goes with other words like oujou-sama and ou, they hold no special meaning so why not just translate them anyway? Footnotes only gives you more work to do.

  4. That is an interesting topic you bring up, and one I've put some thought into along the way.

In some cases, I left things in Japanese because they are part of a title (Koutetsu no *Ou*) or because I felt they were already commonly understood by the audience (ojousama). Also, ojousama contains certain connotations that are a little difficult to translate concisely... "young lady"? "rich girl"? Nothing sounds quite right to me.

There are also words like "buchou", or "club president/leader/what have you". I translated it as club president when they were talking about Koutetsu no Ou as a third party; but I used buchou when they use it while talking to her. My logic is that, in English, we would someone a "club president" in third person, but it would usually be very strange to call them "Mr. Club President" to their face.

As for "hentai", I think that falls under a couple of the above (namely, being part of the title and being a common enough word to already be understood), though making a plural out of it (hentais) was certainly an oversight on my part. I am also slightly reluctant to say hentai = pervert.

Though in the end, I'm still working out how much should be translated into English and how much should be left as Japanese. Your comments are appreciated, and I will consider them when I work on the next chapter.

  5. Thank you for your time, these releases are highly appeciated!
I'll be looking forward to more,
regarding the title, I'd leave it as is.
When it comes to clothing, ie bunko, then translating the term is sensible instead of leaving it as is.

  6. When will there be a new chapter up(I mean the raw)? I know the manga comes out monthly, but not exactly when.

  7. The magazine that carries the series, Monthly Comic Alive, is released on the 27th of every month. I typically find the raws on Share the following Monday morning. One can usually expect the scanlation to be out the following weekend, unless I'm particularly busy (or, more likely, feeling lazy).

  14. Hm, I suppose one could find me on a couple of boards (jcafe24.net and e-shuuushuu.net come to mind, though I don't sign on very often to either). There's also Google+, and I lurk in #zero-raws much of the time.
I'm not sure what you would want to contribute with, as I prefer to do things by myself so I don't have to stress over some timetable.
If you really want to know what happens next and you don't mind massive amounts of spoilers, I posted extensive summaries of the first three volumes on jcafe24.net.

  19. Hey S3vEn, nice to see you here. I plan on doing the third entry of that Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai doujin series whenever I find some decent scans for it.

To answer MoonWind and possibly head off any similar questions, I have no plans to work in a group; I've done that before, and I don't feel like doing it again at the moment.

  20. Hi, thanks for translating Hentai Ouji, it's hilarious and it's easily becoming one of my favourites.

It would be nice if you could do a little blog post when you release each chapter since just updating your downloads page doesn't hit the rss feed.

  23. I suppose I could be convinced to do a new post for each chapter from now on.

Chapter 4 has been released for a while now, but chapter 5's raws just came out, so I'll hopefully get to that this weekend.

Also, I have no idea why someone would post a donation page here... just going to note that it's not related to me.

  24. I like seeing Japanese words in phonetic translation because some word usages carry a lot of Japanese "flavor" or are awkward/impossible to translate. Honorifics for example. Hentai-san is infinitely more preferable over mr pervert. Keep doing it the same way. In fact, expand on it so we get more of the original nuances. It's more informative. I'm for embracing more of the culture. I like it.
